About the Movie
When Johnny, a young boy, goes shopping for a pet he comes home with a mysterious looking package. He hatches his new pets in a jar of water and is delighted with the tiny creatures swimming around. Unfortunately, his emotionally unstable mother discovers them and is completely disgusted. She promptly takes Johnny’s beloved new pets and flushes them down the toilet.
The next morning, Johnny sits at the kitchen table longingly examining his Water Monsters instruction booklet. Sadly, illiterate Johnny can’t read a seemingly important warning: Do not feed Water Monsters human waste. But this potentially disturbing premonition is interrupted as Johnny’s mother lunges into one of her emotional breakdowns. As she starts screaming and falling to the floor we suddenly flash forward to the present . . .
Teenage Johnny wakes up with a start. It was all just a weird dream! Or was it?
Johnny has a pretty typical teenage life. He goes to high school. He hangs out with his friends Bill and Jane. One weekend, Johnny and his friends go away to the cottage. Everyone is sitting by the lake when suddenly Bill mysteriously disappears under the water. Frantically, Johnny and Jane try to help. Tragically, Bill never resurfaces.
Depressed by Bill’s sudden and untimely death, Johnny sits at home watching the news. Mysterious sea creature attacks from around the world are making headlines. Johnny hears the news reporter say that the sea creatures seem to be feeding off of human waste.
On hearing the words “human waste” Johnny makes a lightning bolt connection — Do not feed Water Monsters human waste. The warning on the booklet he had found just days before! He’s stunned. Could these dangerous sea creatures be the very same instant pets that his mother flushed down the toilet years ago? Have they mutated and grown into man-eating monsters? Was that warning on the instruction booklet true? Is Johnny responsible for unleashing this menace upon the world?!? Overwhelmed, Johnny succombs to a complete mental breakdown. Devastated, he destroys the room and collapses to the floor.
As Johnny falls deeper and deeper into drunken despair, Water Monster violence around the world increases. There is panic in the streets. More and more people are dying. The authorities are at a loss for what to do.
Finally, Johnny pulls himself together. Determined to stop the Water Monsters he throws his bottle to the floor, gets up out of his chair and confidently declares: That’s it! I have to save the world!
Can the Water Monsters be stopped before it’s too late? Will the world be saved from a terrible fate? Is Johnny destined to be a hero?
